A unique combination of circumstances gives rise to a sense of place, and to what we recognise as character. The search for local phenomena forms the basis of Buschow Henley’s architecture - in, for example, the topography of the site or its aspect, the type of activities and the culture of an organisation. Practical themes generate a character and a discernible quality that is borne out in the way it is made, in its material and sculptural form.

We seek to balance the homogenous and heterogeneous in our work. In this respect a sociological and psychological logic underpins our architecture.

We are interested in what might be described as a palpably sustainable approach, one that has a human, ethical and cultural dimension. Landscape also plays a vital role in our work and determining the character of the interiors.

Our expertise is not confined to one building type, but has been employed to improve on convention in housing, healthcare, education, offices, the arts and leisure, masterplanning and urban regeneration. In addition to new-build schemes we also have a detailed understanding of the adaptive reuse of historic buildings.

We work closely with our clients in a responsive manner to deliver real value through good design.
